India is a secular country. A country that will let all religions tolerate each other and also let each other flourish. The secularism of the country is visible in the streets of India. When I was about 10 years old, the street where we lived in was a mix of all religions and languages. Two of the families in our neighborhood were Muslims and one was Christian and we also had families with Indian languages like Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu as their mother tongues.
After so many years, it has struck my head that despite our religious and language differences, all the families in the street lived like a big family. We even celebrated the festivals of each other, and went to each others homes without judgments or reservations of any kind. When it was Deepavali, the festival of lights, the whole street participated in the celebrations. When it is Ramzan time, the Muslim families gave gifts to all the other families in the street. During Christmas, the Christian family shared their home made delicacies with other families. Almost all the families hung the Christmas star in their homes. We celebrated all the festivals together and no one stopped me a hindu girl from entering their Muslim or Christian homes. Everyone shared and prospered. No family made a big deal out of religion.
When I look back now, I feel proud of all my neighbors. This is the level of secularism in India, which has made the country prosper. We all must learn to find unity despite our differences. Our school prayers, have prayers from all religions only to teach us that we all are one. This is one of the few things that make me feel proud to be an Indian.
WHILE IT IS THE SAME SUN THAT GIVES ENERGY TO EVERYONE IN THIS PLANET, WHY DO WE HUMANS SPEND SO MUCH TIME FINDING THE DIFFERENCES…………
